OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY

LAND OF HERITAGE

You hold our story,
In your very large hands,
Like treasure in a chest,
Valuable is our story,
So are your hands that held it.
Your voice speaks culture, shouts tradition,
And reveals indigenous peculiarities,
From your deep roots have grown time tested branches.

Like a mother with a large heart,
You extended your warm hand,
To all that trace their steps to you,
Giving generously to them,
The gifts that mother nature,
Has so endowed you with.

With your land mass, you support thousands of body mass,
As you hold up their feet, with your ground.
Trees grow, and fruits are harvested,

Plants are cultivated,
And food is produced, as men get to work,
For he who doesn’t work should not eat.
Right in your domain is a cradle of excellence,
Offering greatness to all who come around.
You are beautiful, with your unique scenery
Like a king’s fine linen robe.

God bless the touch of civilization we see,
That offers breath taking sights of edifice,
From great roof top patterns to colourful wall coverings.
Regardless, you uphold past times,
Showing off your indigenous peculiarity,
Even through human abode.

I will forever appreciate,
The memory I have of you, Land of Ife.
The mountains, the hilly roads,
The plain grounds and the people that inhabit you
With all the potentials you possess,
And the heritage you uphold,
Live on Ile-Ife!!!
