WELCOME 2014/2015

Taking a momentary look, a sustained look at them Something rushing through my soul, troubling my sight These rare set of new students They are like untainted light, shining so bright
I will look at them but with my shades on I will tell tales of their accomplishments definitely with passion Fresh, reminiscent of juice from a king’s winery, our own freshers Eyes beaming they are like blooming petals.
They are precious stones waiting to be refined Their essence ready to be defined Beneath their beautiful are valor and strength With their fingers of fury they proved to be the best
They've made a walk of competition stood out from the crowd Heroes to the friends and families they have made proud Get the trumpet, sound it out loud It’s an epic triumph, they’ve held us spellbound
As we welcome your comely feet into our midst We take your lovely hands and lead you to a feast A feast filled with great rejoicing and laughter While we tell tales of our 'journey' that leaves you wiser
The things we've seen the things we've experienced Takes Jah's assistance to survive far beyond common sense Tread softly learn from our footsteps Ask for help from us for everyone cares
We've got an accommodating bosom for you to lean on Our ears would always be attentive whenever you call on We rejoice with you for today is your day As our care for you spreads all over you like the sun's ray
It is a new dawn, beginning of an era So to our lives and this great citadel of learning we welcome you, our amazing brothers and sisters.

Voice of Hope

A voice is crying out
Beyond walls and barriers,sounding loud
Deep in our hearts,motivating us
Giving us a re-think of our course
To a country so enmeshed in problems
Ruled by government deeply entrenched in corruption
When it seems we can no longer cope
Listen to the voice of hope
Calling out into every nook and cranny
Beyond social stratification,beyond ethnicity
Right into the ears of everyone living
Listen to the voice of hope
A journey so long
Challenges so strong
We can weather the storm
If only,we Listen to the voice of hope
They said we are sick
Our free fall at its peak
'Nigeria is gone' so they speak
These sayings would not matter with voice of hope

Though In the marshy waters of mediocrity is our education
Security for a while hanging on probation
We'll survive as a nation
as long as we,listen to the voice of hope

Poverty rules throughout the country
Pressing us down with its iron fist
Yard by yard making life hard, inch by inch not even cinch
Our 'messiah' is our voice of hope

Looking through the window pane
salvation would definitely come our way
sunshine beyond the rain
light at the end of the tunnel

but for how long will our bodies be pummeled?
we'll live to see the day
If only we give credence to the voice of hope.

SELFIE WITH A STRANGER!

SELFIE WITH A STRANGER

All my life I have waited for this A Stir at a camera,at its lens Whether of a phone or another device With an unusual facial expression
Neither am I mr world Nor am I a demi-god Being a living human I deserve a one in a lifetime selfie
Definitely not an absurd expression of romantic hope For am not in search of a lover I will take prided strides in the adulation When men scorn I'd smile back in deception
Not with a man like me

DEMOCRACY DAY

A new administration,
beginning of another long night, expectations, skyscraper high, equally for disappointment the time could be nigh.
A general so ruthless like a maned young lion, so determined, with searing passion.
They said we are sick BUHARI is the panacea, our Free fall at its peak the general would catch us,they opined.

7th DAY OF LOVE(CULLED FROM 30 DAYS OF LOVE)

Having a coke with you is better than visiting the most expensive restaurant in the world on a stomach rumbling afternoon,

Probably because of your disposition,height,smile,speech-whole being,

Among all things I’ll do it because of your beauty,

You are strikingly beautiful that every-time I look at you the porches have no faces,

OCTOBER 28, 2012

Went to U.I for a programme, but I found out that I was re-programmed from who I used to be before I entered the hall where the event took place. I left as a different person. Food, drinks, the program parts? None of the aforementioned reasons caused the programming. A damsel did!!!!!!!!!! Had to start scribbling immediately for my own self gratification, and those hasty and untidy smallish letters led to this poem you are about to read.

October 28, 2012

Great sailors compact ships wonderful ocean and a cool day 11:57 am October 28, 2012,

A milestone in their lives as honors is being conferred on them as new captains,

Here to fore wanted to stay with them 'til the end,

People basking in the euphoria of the new achievement,

Captains off into delirium as to what awaits them,

In the flurry of these I took my eyes off them neither did I know that my mind would follow

In the luminosity of the day I saw a symbol of beauty personified,

Immediately I became no longer enamored with the idea of spending my whole day with them,

My usual non-committal response that I could mutter were perspicacious remarks,

Don’t blame me but the conspicuous girl with an idyllic existence,

My body was getting cold like a sick Rabbit trapped in snow,

I could feel a fluttering pulse in my veins and heart,

It affected my mind as the many atmospheres of deep water affect the body of the diver.

I AM A NIGERIAN.

I AM A NIGERIAN!

I'm a Nigerian
a young chap not a centenarian,
I'm a Nigerian
one that stands to the face of problems who doesn't just sit back to blame corruption,

I am a Nigerian
just like you
I want to be free
free from war
just like who?
Everyone that wants peace

I’m a Nigerian,
but not the one who fools around with girls,
who wants them to undress,
who wants to see beneath the partner of their skirts,
like the ones preying on their lack of livelihood,

I'm a Nigerian,
one who wants change,

SEVEN DEGREES WEST!

The Wild West, aka the Old West, was an astoundingly awesome period in American history that every person who has ever played Red Dead Redemption wants to emulate. Now, clearly pop culture has turned much of the true West into legend.
Many a great people have claimed association or connection to the west. Be it movie stars, music stars especially rappers, sheriffs and the list goes on and on. The west in their minds is a place that places them among the most powerful, toughest, sharp survival instinct, the richest, the most commanding and the most respected small elite class of specially gifted people.
Though there were never quick-draw artists who could shoot a six gun out of your hand with another six gun. #This reminds me of my friend RANGO# But the basics were true.
I once had a connection with the west, though not what you think. I met a lady,*coughs* she was sooooooooooooooooooooo..................................................................... let the poem explain who she was and her challenges.

Happy Reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEVEN DEGREES WEST!

Towards the tail of teens,
so beautiful yeah really really tempting,
dainty body in yellow and green,
thought she could do everything,
but he would never allow her to live up the dreams.

That singled her out among her pears,
never shouts or screams,
rather as silent as grave.

Let me quickly tell you about her,
striving to improve
so that she would never be disapproved

MENACE(POVERTY)

When two Elephants fight,it is the grass that suffers or gets trampled. This is a universally accepted truth regardless of the time and place. What does it mean to you? To me, it means when there is a problem between two people others around them would definitely be affected.

I've seen it apply several times all around the world. I wouldn't be telling such tales with this post-story for another day-rather the pain of such 'grasses' and their hope of survival is what I'll be considering.
The title of this poem is 'MENACE-POVERTY'. Let's take a look with a magnifying lens,at this one hell of a social problem.

MENACE(POVERTY)

Vision incredibly scary

sun, show your fires want to behold clearly

who will rescue the masses

from these soldiers and those having riches.

See,feel their anguish and pain

in dealing with it and other vices that reign

moving_rocks_shattering glasses

killing poor sparing rich

yard by yard making life hard,

inch by inch not even cinch

scattering,hopping,falling

children crying

stores empty parents hiding

sophisticated guns

taking over food,clothes_homes

clad with all sorts of bullets

moving past their entire mileage

a terrible day

birth pangs are here child has refused to come the earth way

countless bodies of those slained

SANCTIMONY

My school (OAU) is currently on a compulsory 'mid-semester break', very funny . We don't know who to trust of the two opposing parties. Reminiscing on this situation reminds me that OAU as an institution is a microcosm of the country itself. Then I wrote this poem to express my feeling. My country inspired its writing, but my school inspired my posting it. You'll see my country clearly in this piece, though subliminally my school shines through. ENJOY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sanctimony

Those Leading the most populous black nation have no shame,
this shameless state belies the hype and the fame,
did I hear giant of Africa?
riding air waves,nothing but sarcastical.

We can not help but to notice our abysmal state,
universities locked students on the street,
we've been here before and we really hope for repeat.

Corruption growing at a very sorry rate,
like trophies and crowns your glory has gathered dust
